Truth
Tell me. Is there any word that has caused more death and destruction; more harm and sorrow? Done more to set brother against brother; parent against child? Done more to destroy than this word called Truth?
For is it not so that we both swear that something is True in one breath and in the next declare there is no such thing as Truth? Is it not so that we profess to stand for what is good and true and right, yet rarely do we act in line with that belief?
And yet; and yet — has there ever been a word so attacked as Truth? For we live in fear of the solidness of the word and seek to reduce it down to an opinion blown hither and thither in the wind. We would rather there be a truth for you and a different truth for me. Perhaps we are confused. Perhaps we are indeed blind and deaf and lame and halt.
No matter. Truth is not subject to our beliefs and opinions. Like a mighty fortress it withstands all attempts to destroy it. Thankfully this is impossible. For Truth does not live in what we say, nor what we think. No. Truth abides in our hearts as the Word. The point where that which is beyond words or thought enters into our being. Indeed, IS our being. We may let it shine or cover it up. What we cannot do is extinguish it.
